What is the worst radio you ever owned?

Postby warf135 » Wed 28 Jan, 2009 12:47 am

Hi All,
Thought I'd start this discussion as a bit of fun.

My worst radio ever was a "D.N.T. B40 FM" base radio. This was basically an "M40 FM" with an extended case and a power supply built in. Useless. The power supply was too weak, the recieve was terrible (even after a tune up!), the modulation was bad and the output power was about 2.5watts at full power.

I ended up scrapping it. What is the worse radio you ever owned? and why?

Norm.

Yea Rick, that rig was certianly "special" - even you could not have made that rig any good. It was monumentaly bad. Someone once told me that D.N.T. stood for Do Not Touch. Well, I won't be touching another one thats for sure.

Norm.

Anyone else had a really bad rig? share it!

Hi Stubags,

I believe the multimode 2 and lafayette 1200 are pretty much the same rig. my old lafayette sounded good with the addition of a leeson tw232 desk mike, but I agree the standard mike was a bit "wooly" to say the least.

Norm.

Anyone else got a bad rig?

I would expect no less! My old 1200 had a few mods too (mainly to get extra frequencies). I started off by adding extra crystals, but then learned about binary programming on the PLL02a. ended up with about 420 channels if I remember right. That was a great rig!

Hi Nitro,

Sounds like you've had some nice rigs there!

A least a string and bean can setup was reliable, even if the range was limited!

Norm.

Another pretty bad rig I owned was the original 12w version of the albrecht ae-497s homebase, the sibebands made it sound like you were under water and the FM demodulator was badly tuned. and other problems too many to list!.

Anyone else got or had a really bad rig? share it on here and let the world know!
