D&L Mfg Co " Raider"

Postby bobby4244 » Thu 14 Jan, 2010 8:25 pm

This amp does not seem to be working right at all. It uses four 6JG6A and one 6AQ5. It is suppose to put out 100W on AM and 200 or more on SSB. It is for the 10-15-20-40 Meter bands. I hooked it to an 11 meter radio and turned it on. everything lights up. On 10-20-40 there is no amplification of the signal. But when switched to 15 Meter it puts out 60 watts. Its suppose to be 100 watts. And I would think that it should output when switched to 10 meters. First thing I will do is test the tubes but I don't think thats the problem. I have never worked on one of these animals so I could use some help for sure. cbtricks.com has a schematic that doesn't tell you a lot but its all that is out there. It also has a tune and load controls on the front. Anyone know what they do or how to set them? It also has a BTL (SPDT) switch. What is BTL??? At least I know what the on-off and standby switches are for. I really hope someone out here can offer some help.as I don't have a clue on how to set up and adjust.

I just tested the five valves and they test perfect.

The schematic from cbtricks.com is of little use. seems that it is not complete. After studying this amp for a while, it looks like someone in the past may have set it up for 11 meters only. But the output watts is only about 50 60 watts. should be 100W.

If memory serves, you need to turn the tune and load controls to maximise the power output for different bands. at least thats how it was on an old zetagi valve amp I used to have

Hi Norm!

Thats exactly what I figured also. There is one meter on the panel (DCma) and I tuned it up to the limit of the scale but the dosy still reads only 60 watts. I was on the air with it last night and the reports were all good but still only 60 watts. Where are the other 40w ? I am driving it with a cb dead keying at 4w and swinging to maybe 8-10. Being that it was designed for ham bands, could it be that I am not driving it hard enough?

The Raider requers an input of 12 to 20 to get full output, it was made to work low power Ham radios like the Swan and Jtech.
